About UT3MOD

The Mission

UT3MOD.COM exists to preserve and serve the Unreal Tournament 3 modding community's creative legacy. We catalog 414 mods recovered from the Internet Archive's preserved collections, with 332 working downloads available for PS3 players.

Every mod description on this site was originally written by Herby and a friend during the site's active years (2007–2020), and is preserved exactly as it was — no edits, no rewrites. These descriptions are part of the history. They capture the excitement, humor, and community spirit of a unique era in console gaming.

Our goal is simple: make sure these files stay available for anyone who wants them. Whether you're a returning UT3 veteran dusting off your PS3, a retro gaming enthusiast exploring a groundbreaking console modding ecosystem, or a game historian documenting the evolution of user-generated content — we've got you covered.

Why This Matters

UT3 on PS3 was a pioneer. In 2007, the idea of user-created mods on a home console was almost unheard of. While PC gamers had enjoyed modding for decades, console players were locked into whatever shipped on the disc. Epic Games changed that by building a mod import system directly into UT3's PS3 version — a system so ahead of its time that very few console games have matched it since.

The mods created by this community represent thousands of hours of creative work by talented artists, programmers, and level designers who shared their creations freely with the world. Maps that took weeks to build, characters modeled polygon by polygon, game modes coded from scratch — all given away for free because the creators believed in the UT3 community.

When file hosting services shut down and the original site went offline, much of this work risked being lost forever. UT3MOD.COM ensures that doesn't happen. We're not just hosting files — we're preserving a piece of gaming history that deserves to be remembered.

How It Works

The new UT3MOD.COM is built for longevity and reliability:

Static site architecture — Built with Astro, the site generates pure HTML with zero JavaScript by default. This means it works on even the most limited browsers, including the PS3's NetFront browser from 2006. No databases to crash, no servers to go down — just static files served from the edge.
Cloudflare infrastructure — The site is hosted on Cloudflare Pages (free tier, unlimited bandwidth) with mod files stored on Cloudflare R2 (zero egress fees). This keeps operating costs under $8/year while providing enterprise-grade reliability and global CDN distribution.
PS3 browser compatibility — The PS3's NetFront 2.81 browser supports CSS2 and limited JavaScript. We use CSS2 fallback styles and direct download links so PS3 users can browse and download mods just like they did in 2007. Modern browsers get the full experience with enhanced styling and search.
No tracking, no cookies — We use Cloudflare Web Analytics, which works without JavaScript and doesn't set cookies. No consent banners, no tracking pixels, no data collection beyond basic aggregate page views. Your privacy is respected.

Credits

Herby — Creator of UT3MOD.COM (2007). Site owner, curator, and the person who tested every mod before publishing. The original vision of making PS3 mods accessible to everyone continues to drive the project.

The UT3 Modding Community — The map makers, character artists, mutator coders, weapon designers, vehicle builders, and game mode creators who produced hundreds of mods and shared them freely. Without their generosity and talent, there would be nothing to preserve.

Internet Archive Contributors — The anonymous community members who had the foresight to upload their mod collections to the Internet Archive, creating the ut3ps3modarchive and ut-3-ps-3-pkg collections. They saved 961+ files and 40 GB of data from being lost.

Epic Games — For creating Unreal Tournament 3, building the PS3 mod import system, running the Make Something Unreal Contest, and featuring UT3MOD.COM in-game. Their support of console modding was ahead of its time.
